Directorate General of Health Services is the main programmatic coordination, implementation and monitoring arm of the provincial Health Department of the Government of Punjab and is headed by the Director General Health Services (DGHS).

Lahore has a number of hospitals, including Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital, Mayo Hospital, Hamid Latif Hospital, Nawaz Sharif Social Security Hospital, Lahore General Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, Gulab Devi Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, Sheikh Zaid Hospital,Fatima Memorial Hospital shadman lahore, Ittefaq Hospital, Punjab Institute of Cardiology and Sharif Medical Complex. The current government of Punjab has a comprehensive plan to establish new hospitals and medical colleges in the city.

Government is taking special measures to provide modern health facilities to the masses through health sector reforms programme. Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue 1122) has been established under the Punjab Emergency Service Act, 2006, for professional management of emergencies by maintaining a state of preparedness to deal with emergencies, providing timely response, rescue and emergency medical treatment to the persons affected by emergencies.
